On the Water in Fort Myers

  • February 23, 2015

Fort Myers has always been known for its spectacular waterways throughout the city, but the water is equally incredible outside the city. Hugging the Gulf of Mexico, Fort Myers offers spectacular beaches, bayous, and boating. If you’re in town and ready to hit the waves, check out these three on-the-water events.

Beginners Guide to Kayaking

For those of you who want to pick up a paddle and push yourself off but don’t have the experience on a waterborne vehicle, this class is the perfect place to start. GAEA guides will teach you the basics of kayaking in the beautiful Cape Coral, and you’ll come away with an in-depth knowledge of the basic paddle strokes and maneuvers required to man your very own kayak. The class takes place on March 2nd; be sure to wear shoes you can get wet!

Captain Jack Boat Tours

If you’d rather sit back and let the propeller do the pushing so you can take in the area’s beautiful scenery, you’ll want to join Captain Jack on his eco boat tour of the Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve. You’ll learn about the history of the area, as well as the wildlife, and you may even get to see some of the native manatees—an incredible experience for anybody. Captain Jack sets sail on March 1st, so book your seat now!

Civil War Tour on Captiva Cruises

If you’re already familiar with the wildlife and want to learn more specific details of the area’s history, maritime historian Robert Macomber has you covered. Join him and Captiva Cruises for a journey on water and through time as you learn about the area’s victories and defeats, heroes, villains, and romantics, and other incredible stories from the Civil War. The cruise departs on March 10th; book your spot today!

Whether you want to paddle through the waves, sail with the manatees, learn about Fort Myers’ fascinating history, or even just swim at one of our beaches, be sure to get your land legs back in one of our beachfront (and entirely stable) room. Book your room or cottage today—you won’t find a better view. We look forward to your visit!
