Fort Myers and Sanibel: The Valentine Guide

  • January 30, 2016

Step aside Paris. Forget about it Rome. Fort Myers and Sanibel is fast becoming one of the hottest destinations on the planet for lovers. Here are three ways to spice up your Valentine’s Day in Florida’s romance capital…

1. Renew Your Vows

Love is always in the air at Lovers Key State Park, but even more so on Valentine's Day. Located between Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Beach, Lovers Key was accessible only by boat for many years and legend has it that lovers traveled to the island so they could enjoy its secluded beach.

Couples can renew their vows near the gazebo on the beach, while the ocean and gulls provide background music. The ceremonies at 10am, 1pm and 4pm. include a Champagne toast, brunch or lunch, coffee and cake and photo. The event costs $100 per couple, made up of a non-refundable donation to the Friends of Lovers Key, Inc.

The park has been named among the “Top 10 Romantic Retreats” by Coastal Living magazine and earned a spot on The Travel Channel’s “Florida’s Top 10 beaches.”

2. All Aboard the Sweetheart Express

Do you like a little romance served up with your gruesome murder mystery? Then jump aboard the Murder Mystery Dinner Train between February 11 and 14, when a strolling violinist will complete your romantic evening. What better way to impress that special someone?

3. Share the Best Sunset

The Mucky Duck at the north end of Captiva Island may not sound romantic, but it is a favorite with visitors and locals who claim it provides the best sunset spot in the region. Want to make it even more romantic? Feed your lover with fish 'n' chips, grouper sandwiches or Key lime pie.

If you’d like to stir up some romance in Florida this winter, book yourself a stay at the beachfront Best Western PLUS Beach Resort Hotel. When you’re not busy dazzling your loved-one, you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the Gulf of Mexico from your private balcony.
