Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve

  • January 14, 2015

Fort Myers is renowned for its sandy beaches and crystalline waters, but it’s also home to another source of magnificent, natural beauty. Just a 25 minute drive from our hotel, you’ll find the winding trails and towering trees of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, a 3,400 acre stretch of wetland that’s sure to enchant you. For those with a love for the natural world, then, it makes the perfect destination for a day trip from our hotel. But what will you find in its midst?

Let us give you a preview!

Fantastic Flora

As its name suggests, Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is the home of thousands of towering Cypress trees. Walk its main boardwalk, and bask in the majesty of these gnarled and ancient trees. Of course, there’s more to the Preserve than tree life. You’ll also encounter a plethora of beautiful wildflowers and plant life inside its borders. Just don’t forget to pack your camera!

Phenomenal Fauna

Florida is the home of many amazing animals, from alligators, to Florida panthers, to manatees. And while you’re unlikely to come face to face with a manatee in the wetlands of the Six Mile Cypress Slough, you are likely to encounter beautiful herons and other birds, making it an excellent choice for birders. It probably goes without saying, but binoculars are always helpful!
