Mermaid Appearance | January 25

  • January 18, 2015

Mermaids: the beautiful creatures of myth with the top half of a human, and the bottom half of a fish.
Their origins lay beneath the surface, in the lore of ancient civilizations the world over, from Europe, to Asia, to Africa.

Perhaps the first mention of these aquatic legends came from ancient Assyria, though their emergence into popular culture followed the release of the Disney children’s classic, The Little Mermaid in 1989, which was based on a book of the same name from 1837.

With the arrival of the film, Mermaids became a favourite of young children everywhere. Ariel became both a role model and a favourite Halloween costume. Fun films like Aquamarine, the Little Mermaid II, and even Pirates of the Caribbean paid homage to these beloved creatures. The result? Suddenly, you’d be hard-pressed to find a kid who wouldn’t love to meet a Mermaid in person. The problem is they’re just so darn hard to find...Until now!

Yes, on January 25, The BEST WESTERN PLUS Beach Resort will welcome a beautiful Mermaid to Fort Myers Beach. Her name is Alasea, and she can’t wait to meet you!

This event is a follow up to the wildly successful Fourth Annual Surfers for Autism Gulf Coast Beach Festival, which we held back in October. It’s presented with the help of the fantastic Blue Mermaid Designs. Sound like something your child might be interested in? Alasea will be splashing around our pool, eager to make new friends, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on the 25th. Contact us for additional information!

Of course, when the fun’s over, you can let the excitement soak in on our glorious private beach, or from the comfort of your wonderful room. And don’t forget, we offer our guests a delicious complimentary breakfast every morning! Book your stay today!
