Learn & Have Fun in Fort Myers

  • November 08, 2014

Fort Myers is home to a rich variety of attractions that are both educational and fun.  If you’re staying with us this fall, get outside and experience a bit of nature or head indoors to learn more about the history of our area.

Babcock Wilderness Adventures

Babcock Wilderness Adventures offers nature tours through the 90,000 acre Babcock Ranch, a rugged swampland where you will view alligators, panthers, birds, deer, turkey, a herd of historic Florida Cracker cattle and other creatures.  These 90-minute tours are open year round and suitable for all ages.  Visit their website or call 941-637-0551 to book your tour.

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum

Have you ever wondered what sea shells are made of?  Or, how long these specimens of nature last?  You’ll find the answer at the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum.  This one of a kind institution houses over 30 exhibits of mollusks from around the world, a collection of “shells in history” and rare specimens.  Kids can get up close and personal with the shells at a hands-on play area and games.  Call them at 239-395-2233 or visit the museum’s website to find out about special events, beach walks and tours taking place.

Williams Academy Black History Museum

The Williams Academy was the first government funded school for black students.  Originally constructed in 1913, the building that houses the museum today was completed in 1942 and tells the story of black people living in Lee County.  Take a visual tour of the many historic locations and buildings within the Dunbar Community.
