  • May 30, 2016

There are countless beaches in Fort Myers, including our very own private beach ideal for beachcombing and critter searching. But for a peek at the other gorgeous indigenous flora and fauna unique to the Fort Myers area, we have suggestions to offer. Book your stay at the Best Western Plus Beach Resort Hotel on the south coast of Fort Myers and enjoy easy access to these adventures and amazing hotel rooms, suites and amenities. We’ll see you soon!

The Butterfly Estates

Located in the north end of Fort Myers, this charming butterfly garden promises a relaxing afternoon enjoying a 3,600-square foot glass conservatory and sweet shops and cafés. Take a tour, learn how to plant your own butterfly garden, and peruse onsite vendors at this family-friendly attraction open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Butterfly Estates is run by the Florida Native Butterfly Society, a nonprofit organization that works to preserve and protect the state’s natural butterfly species.

The Botanical Gardens at Sanibel Moorings

Located on Sanibel Island about half an hour from our hotel, the Botanical Gardens at Sanibel Moorings offer a colorful display of hundreds of native plants and non-invasive tropical species. The garden is also home to some cool wildlife, including butterflies, turtles, birds, rabbits and more. Catch a public tour every Wednesday at 9 a.m. for $5 per person, or do your own self-guided tour seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (holidays and holiday weekends excluded).

The Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve

This popular natural attraction is a great way to get some fresh air and enjoy a pleasant walk in nature. Just FYI: The boardwalk will be closed for maintenance until June 15, but the Interpretive Center remains open during that time (Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and parking fees will be waived during the maintenance. The Interpretive Center features fun stuff for the kids to get into, and education displays highlighting the eco-system in the surrounding Preserve.
