American Sand Sculpting Competition

Ready for fun, sun, and sand? If you are, you’re in luck because the 29th annual American Sand Sculpting Championship is back from November 20 to November 29!
 
Working with over 1,000 tons of sand, master sand sculptors head over to Fort Myers Beach to form the largest sand sculpting event in the state, showcasing their artistry in what media outlets like USA Today and CNN Travel have named "one of the 10 best sandsculpting competitions in the world."

This year, sculptors represent four different countries and over 10 states. Collectively, the competitors hold over 300 medals and many of them are World Champions. There will be 16 Solo Master Sculptors, five teams of 10 Doubles Master Sculptors, and 11 Advanced Amateurs who will compete for the Florida State Championship.

One of the featured sculptors is Amazin’ Walter, who has been creating sand sculptures for 29 years and has won so many titles, he says he’s lost count of all of the awards he’s accumulated. Walter has appeared at nearly every major sand competition and is a frequent winner of People’s Choice awards.

Another sculptor who will be competing is Bruce Phillips, a sculptor for over 20 years who has won the 3-member division of the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition seven times and holds five world records. This will be his first time on Fort Myers Beach.

Along with observing and admiring these amazing works of art, visitors will be able to wander through a village of over 50 vendors from around the country who will be offering a wonderful selection of food, drinks, specialty retail, and arts and crafts. 

There will also be great activities to get involved in, including a Kids Zone, where kids can practice building their own sand cultures; sculpting lessons and demonstrations, where you can learn the tricks of the trade from the masters; and an amateur contest, open to anyone and all levels!
